NEWS RELEASE: New members enhance OMA environmental expertise

At its most recent board of directors meeting, two environmental engineering consultants joined the Ontario Mining Association as members. The addition of both SLR Global Environmental Solutions and Environmental Resources Management (ERM) enhances ecological expertise within the association.

The OMA was founded in 1920 and it is one of the longest serving trade organizations in the country. The OMA represents the mining industry in the province. Its members are involved in various aspects of environmentally responsible exploration, production and processing of mineral resources in Ontario and providing services and supplies to the sector.

SLR Global Environmental is an environmental consultancy specializing in mining and minerals, waste management, energy, infrastructure, planning and development and industrial sectors. It was established in 1994 as a United Kingdom-based operation and it is employee owned.

The company has more than 1,000 employees based in offices across the globe. In Canada, SLR Global Environmental has more than 220 employees in several offices. In Ontario, its main office is located in Markham. Currently, in Canada, the company is involved in projects in Ontario, Quebec, British Columbia, Yukon and Northwest Territories.

ERM is an international environmental consultancy firm with an international reach. It was founded in 1971 in the United Kingdom and has more than 5,000 employees working out of 140 offices in 39 countries.

The company’s core services include air quality and climate change, impact assessment and planning, performance assurance, contaminated site management and risk management. In Canada, ERM has about 200 employees and its main office is located in Vancouver. ERM acquired Vancouver-based Rescan environmental consultancy earlier this year.

The company has created the ERM Foundation, which encourages staff to support environmental initiatives around the world. The company matches funds to support employee activities and donates expertise and time on a pro-bono basis.
